RCMP take suspected dealer off the streets

5/15/2012

Salmon Arm RCMP have taken down a potential drug trafficker in the community.

Members waited for a suspected buyer to make his purchase before swooping in on him in the Blind Bay Area.

Police found a large quantity of crack cocaine, powder cocaine, prescription drugs, and cash on the suspect.

Staff Sgt. Kevin Keane says members then took the man's cell phone.

"The way it's done these days is over the use of cellular phones.  A lot of texting going on.  And when they seized this person's cellphone a lot of texts came up requesting the drug dealer to meet them at certain locations.  The police just showed up at those locations."

Police educated these individuals on the perils of drug use.  The name of the suspect is being withheld until formal charges can be approved.
