Sentencing Nears For Five Vernon Gang Members

11/29/2012

Five Vernon-area men are expected to be sentenced in B-C Supreme Court later today for the drug-related slayings of three people.

Peter Manolakos, Dale Sipes, Leslie Podolski, Sheldon O'Donnell and Douglas Brownell were convicted recently of the 2004 and 2005 slayings of David Marniuk, Ronald Thom and Thomas Bryce.

The men were killed after they crossed members of the violent drug gang, known as the Greeks.  Manolakos, Sipes, Podolski and O'Donnell have all been convicted of at least one count of first degree murder so will automatically receive a life sentence with no chance of parole for 25 years – but Brownell was convicted of two counts of manslaughter, so his time behind bars must be determined by the judge.
