Pair Of Vernon Gangsters Handed Life Sentences

A B-C Supreme Court Judge has lauded the Mounties for putting some members of Vernon's notorious Greeks gang behind bars for decades for several killings. Judge Bill Smart handed Dale Sipes and Leslie Podolski mandatory sentences of life imprisonment with no parole eligibility for 25

years for their role in the deaths of Ronald Thom and David Marniuk. Greeks' leader Peter Manolakos, member Sheldon O'Donnell and associate Douglas Brownell have yet to be sentenced but a date is expected to be set next week. Justice Bill Smart says the police were able to gather sufficient evidence by May 2006 to arrest and charge the senior members of the Greeks even though they faced a wall of silence.
